KOTA BARU: Six individuals - four family members and two mountain guides - who entered a forest area through Pos Dakoh, Lojing, Gua Musang on Aug 29 are feared missing after not leaving Pos Kemar, Perak, as scheduled on Sept 3.
Gua Musang OCPD Supt Sik Choon Foo said family members of the hikers lodged a police report in Selangor on Sunday (Sept 6) after they failed to return from their hike on the set date.
He said checks with the Forestry Department showed that the last contact with the group revealed that they were in the forest area in Perak.
"For now, we are dealing with the Perak authorities to secure confirmation as based on their last contact, they were in Perak and no longer in Kelantan,” he said when contacted on Sunday.
He added that the group had permits to enter the forest and engaged the services of two mountain guides.
"We haven’t conducted an operation in Kelantan as checks revealed they crossed the state’s borders.
"We are preparing in case there are developments or confirmation that they are in the Kelantan area,” he said.
The police are also checking information about the vehicle used by the group, including the possibility they used rental vehicles or transport arranged by the mountain guides.
Meanwhile, Perak Fire and Rescue Department operations division asst director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said the department is gathering information on the missing hikers before taking further action.
"The operations centre is now gathering complete information about the incident before conducting coordination between other government agencies for further action," he said in a statement on Sunday. — Bernama
