Philippines' De Lima renews call to probe Chinese surveillance deal


MANILA (Philippine Daily Inquirer/ANN): Detained Sen Leila de Lima on Sunday (Jan 5) renewed her call urging the Senate to look into the P20-billion surveillance project that the government had awarded to a Chinese firm despite opposition from lawmakers.

De Lima, a former chair of the Commission on Human Rights, warned that the Department of the Interior and Local Government's (DILG) “Safe Philippines Project” might put the country’s national security in jeopardy since it would be led by China International Telecommunications and Construction Corp (CITCC).
