A VIRAL message that provides social media users with a link to a website asking them to fill in their details to receive RM900 in cash aid from the government is actually fraudulent.
Is this true?
Verdict:
TRUE
The Communications and Digital Ministry released a statement on Facebook on Sunday (Dec 17) advising Malaysians not to fall for the scam.
According to the Ministry, the message was fake and no such programme had been organised by the government.
On the website provided by the link, readers were told that the Malaysian Government had introduced a special programme as part of its Covid-19 relief response where those who signed up would receive RM900 credited to their e-wallets.
They were then asked to provide their mobile number and the pin code to their e-wallet.
The ministry asked the public not to be fooled by such swindles and advised them to always refer to official sources for verified information.
