QuickCheck: Was a petrol station worker beaten and robbed in Penang?

A video has gone viral showing a worker at a petrol station being beaten and robbed. Did this really happen in Penang as claimed?

According to Majoriti, the worker was working the pumps alone at Merbau Kudung, Butterworth around 9pm on Christmas Day when the incident happened.

Two men on a motorcycle approached the victim and asked to refuel their vehicle.

As the worker was refuelling the motorcycle, the men suddenly assaulted him, grabbed the cash he had on him, and fled. The robbers made off with around RM1,000. Luckily, the victim was not seriously hurt.

CCTV footage of the violent robbery has gone viral on social media.
