QuickCheck: Was a fire in Kajang a suicide attempt?


RECENTLY, it was claimed online that a fire at a hostel in Kajang was caused by a suicide attempt. Is this true?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Kajang District police chief ACP Mohd Zaid Hassan confirmed this in a press release on Wednesday (Dec 28), saying that the fire at the Jalan Hentian 1 shophouse was due to a suicide attempt by a Nepali worker.

"The suspect is a 24-year-old Nepali factory operator and the premises had been turned into a hostel for workers, with three rooms in which two Nepali workers were staying in," he said.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 309 and 406 of the Penal Code for attempted suicide and for intentionally starting a fire at residential premises.

"Those who have information on the incident can come forward at any police station or call Insp Norhafiza Burhanuddin at 019-390 3410 to assist with the investigation," added ACP Mohd Zaid.
