QuickCheck: Are fraudsters targeting ewallet users with a fake upgrade scam?

FRAUDSTERS are contacting Touch 'n Go ewallet users and pretending to be employees of the company who want to help them upgrade their wallet. Is this true?

Verdict:

TRUE

According to a post by Touch 'n Go on its Facebook page, unscrupulous individuals are contacting users with a fake "card upgrade" offer where they can allegedly exchange their Touch 'n Go cards for an enhanced version.

The scammers will try to convince ewallet users that the offer is legitimate by sharing photos of their staff ID cards.

According to comments on Facebook, users said the scammers called them on the phone.

The scammers would offer to assist to upgrade their cards and then attempt to convince the victims to share their MyKad details and one-time password (OTP).

Touch 'n Go reiterated that their staff would never ask ewallet users for OTP numbers nor would they share photos of their employee IDs.
