We have always been told to keep our identifying documents - especially our identity cards - safe, as these details may be misused by others in a way that could implicate us in crimes that have been committed.

Recently, a man’s identity was apparently misused in Temerloh to buy motorcycles without his knowledge.

Did this actually happen in Pahang?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Temerloh OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Azhar Mohd Yusoff confirmed this in a statement posted on the police district's official Facebook page.

In confirming this, he said that an Indonesian man was arrested in Gombak and a Malaysian woman was arrested in Klang following a police investigation into the report.

He added that the investigation was opened following a police report by the complainant who said that his identity had been misused.

"Two motorcycles bought by the suspects were seized, along with one fake identity card; it had the personal details of the complainant that lodged the report but the photograph of the suspect arrested," said ACP Mohd Azhar.

He added that both suspects were detained to be remanded and said that the investigation papers have been sent to the Attorney General's Chambers.

"The police advises companies that conduct sales of vehicles and financial institutions that offer loans to be vigilant and careful when confirming the identity of customers on the premises," said ACP Mohd Azhar.
