QuickCheck: Was a memo issued about the closure of east Sabah tourism?

WITH the school holidays in full swing, Sabah has become a prime destination with its pristine rainforest, rich cultural experiences and beautiful beaches. As such, any alert warning that danger could be on the horizon affects businesses and tourists alike.

Recently, a rumour went viral on social media claiming that the Sabah National Security Council (NSC) issued a memo about the closure of tourism on the state's east coast. Was such a memo issued?

Verdict:

FALSE

In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the Sabah NSC denied issuing the memo.

“Sabah NSC wishes to say that the memo is a false document and is wholly untrue. The public is advised to always refer to verifiable sources of information regarding the security situation in Sabah and not share any false information that could threaten national security,” it said.
