IN this day and age, with the cost of living rising both steadily and rapidly, any news of financial aid tends to go viral online, especially on social media.
This is especially true when it comes to any announcement of aid that appears to be from the government.
Recently, two posts announcing “Bantuan Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah Bujang” or “Bantuan STR Bujang” went viral on social media; both claimed that those who are unmarried would be eligible for RM600 in government aid.
Is there any truth to this?
VERDICT:
FALSE
In a post on its official Facebook account, the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) said the claim that unmarried people would be eligible for a special RM600 pay-off under “Bantuan STR Bujang” is untrue.
Addressing the two posts that misused photographs of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, LHDN advised the public to check the validity of information before spreading it.
“False news, do not spread it. Check first,” it said in the post.
