VERDICT:

TRUE

Yes, Malaysia has the biggest banknote in the world, with a measurement of 22cm X 37cm. The banknote was one of two commemorative banknotes issued by Bank Negara Malaysia in December 2017 in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of the Signing of the Federation of Malaya Independence Agreement (aka Malaysia's 60th Merdeka Day)

They were launched by then Yang di-Pertuan Agong - His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong XV Sultan Muhammad V at the Museum and Art Gallery, Sasana Kijang, Bank Negara Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur.

According to BNM, the commemorative banknotes honour the Council (later called Conference) of Rulers’ contribution towards the realisation of Malaya’s independence on Aug 31, 1957.

This banknote is worth RM600 and sold at RM1,700 a piece. BNM noted that 6,000 pieces of these banknotes were printed.

The banknote also made its way into the Guinness Book of Records and the record is held by Malaysia since December 2017.

The RM600 banknote took over the record of the 100,000 pesos banknote from the Philippines, which measured 21.59cm x 35.5cm. The banknotes were printed in 1998, Phillipines government officials wanted to commemorate independence from more than 300 years of Spanish rule.

The obverse side of the RM600 and RM60 notes shows 15 different monarchs and heads of states circling the royal throne. The reverse side portrays the nine rulers signing the Federation of Malaya Independence Agreement, the silhouette of the first prime minister Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, as well as the four significant landmarks in the country: the National Palace, Perdana Putra, the Parliament building, and the Palace of Justice.

The display units of these banknotes can be viewed at Bank Negara Malaysia’s Museum and Art Gallery and BNMs offices in Penang, Johor Baru, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching, and Kuala Terengganu.

If you can't imagine yourself earning big money, be glad that our country has the biggest legal tender in the world, for now.
