WITH Hari Raya getting closer, it's only natural that people would be eager to prepare early to beat the rush and try and save money by finding the best deals for items like Baju Raya.
Given this, an opportunity seems to have been opened for scammers to pose as legitimate Baju Raya sellers online in a bid to con ususpecting shoppers.
Is there a new scam targeting Baju Raya shoppers?
VERDICT:
TRUE
In a post on its official Twitter account, the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry warned people to be careful when buying Raya clothing online on any social media platform.
This is because many scammers are pretending to sell them cheaply.
"Always do a background check of a seller's business to see whether he or she is credible or not," it said.
The ministry said scammers like to lure victims to make a purchase through an Instagram or Facebook account promoting fake Raya clothing at attractive prices.
"The victim makes the payment via bank transfer but will not get anything in return. By the time they realise this, the scammer has changed their online ID and cannot be contacted any more," it said.
