In a post to its social media platforms, WAO issued a scam alert and warned Internet users of the identity theft.

"Please do not engage with this imposter who stole the identity of WAO's executive director.

"Should they call you or text you, please do not share any personal information about yourself or others," the post reads.

WAO also urged those who had been contacted by the scammer to immediately block the number.
