IT makes sense to sell used computers and other ICT equipment that is still functional – after all, it may just gather dust in a storeroom otherwise.
Still, it is important for would-be buyers to verify the source and condition of such second-hand items.
Recently, it has been claimed that a community college in Sarawak is selling used computers and ICT equipment to the public.
Is this true?
VERDICT:
FALSE
The Miri Community College, which is under the Polytechnic Education and Community College Department of the Higher Education Ministry, has denied making any such offer of used equipment.
"We have not appointed any individual, agent or company to offer or manage the sale of used computer and ICT equipment to the public," the college director's office said in a recent statement.
As such, it advised the public not to be deceived by such offers.
The college said it would not be responsible for losses from transactions with any persons or companies claiming to be agents acting on its behalf.
It advised the public to be wary and not be easily duped by such offers using its name.
