SCAMMERS are being increasingly creative with their scams on social media. Recently, the Communications and Digital Ministry warned people to be careful of Telegram scams which fool people into giving up their bank account details.
Is it true that this happens?
Verdict:
TRUE
The ministry said Telegram scammers would usually pretend to be a bank company and send a message to victims asking them to update their bank account via a link.
"The victim will be brought to a fake banking website where they are asked to key in their ID, password and TAC/OTP number.
"Without them realising, the victim's money will then be transferred to the scammer's bank account," the ministry said in a Facebook post.
Therefore, the ministry warned people to be careful.
