QuickCheck: Was the body of a missing fisherman found in waters off Pontian?

ON Tuesday (April 18), a search and rescue (SAR) operation was launched for a 36-year-old man who went missing during a fishing trip after going out to sea from the Air Masin jetty in Kukup, near Pontian in Johor.

Did the police find the missing man's body in waters off Pontian on Wednesday (April 19)?

Verdict:

TRUE

Pontian OCPD Supt Mohammad Shofee Tayib, in a statement, said that at 9.36am on Wednesday, a discussion was held with representatives from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA), Kukup 2 marine police and the Civil Defence Force to narrow down the search area.

As a result, the body of the missing man was found and identified by his younger brother, who had reported him missing.

"The body was taken to the Pontian Hospital's forensics department for a post-mortem examination," Supt Shofee said.

He urged fishermen not to go out to sea alone and ensure that their boats are in good condition and equipped with life jackets.

"Always keep an eye out for sudden changes in the weather," Supt Shofee added.
