QuickCheck: Was a retired soldier attacked with cut bamboo over half-cooked lemang?

Recently, a video went viral on social media, and it is claimed that this video is of a retired soldier being attacked with cut bamboo after he threw a plastic bag at a lemang seller.

Did this happen as seen in the video?

VERDICT:

TRUE

In a statement, Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit confirmed this, saying that the incident happened after a 61-year-old retired soldier had gone to the lemang stall to get a replacement for the dish he had bought in the morning because it was not properly cooked.

He said that the victim had claimed that the lemang seller refused to look at the lemang that the retiree had claimed was uncooked.

"The lemang seller then split open a fresh lemang and showed that the lemang was fully cooked, before an argument ensued between them," he said.

He added that the lemang seller then said the victim threw what he had bought on the counter and planned to upload a video he recorded of the incident so people would not come to his stall.

ACP Patit said that the victim was then hit with a hollowed bamboo stick that caused injuries to his left ear and right hand, requiring him to get medical treatment at the Melaka Hospital.

He said that the suspect was arrested after the incident but was subsequently released on police bail after his statement was recorded.
