WHILE TikTok has been around for a while, its popularity has boomed with the youth of today making it a very attractive platform for government agencies, social institutions and even politicians who are eager to reach out to groups who did not necessarily use traditional media.
However, this has led to situations where unscrupulous individuals are masquerading as such agencies and institutions on the platform. One such agency that seems to have a doppelganger on TikTok is the Islamic Development Department (Jakim) which apparently has two accounts.
Is it true that someone has set up a fake TikTok account for Jakim?
Verdict:
TRUE
There is a fake Jakim account on TikTok called "jabatanagamamalaysia" which so far has amassed almost 20,000 followers and over 100,000 likes.
So far, the culprits have posted four videos that are composed of news clips of khalwat raids.
Jakim has taken to Facebook and its other social media platforms to call out the account as being fake and that its logo and name have been misused.
