AS one of the key tourist attractions of the Pearl of the Orient, Penang Hill and the funicular railway to its peak sees thousands of tourists and passengers every year. Therefore, any announcement of service disruptions would be a real dampener on the plans of many.
Recently, a poster was circulated on social media and as a message claiming that the funicular railway would be shut for maintenance from June 10 to June 15. Is this true?
VERDICT:
FALSE
In a post on its Facebook page, Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) said that the dates in the poster are in fact fake.
"This message is not issued by the Penang Hill Corporation. Kindly be informed that the correct second bi-annual scheduled maintenance shutdown is from June 15-23," it said.
"Please ensure that you only obtain official updates from PHC’s website at www.penanghill.gov.my or its social media platforms," it added.
