QuickCheck: Did two foreigners escape a lock-up in Padawan, Sarawak?


RECENTLY, there have been some reports online stating that a pair of detainees in Sarawak had managed to escape the lock-up they were placed in.

Is this true?

TRUE

According to a statement by the Sarawak Police Commissioner, two Indonesian men managed to escape the Tapah police station lock- in Padawan, Sarawak at about 1pm on Monday (June 12).

"The two suspects were arrested under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act and placed in the Tapah police station lock-up on June 7 before they escaped on Monday," said Comm Datuk Mohd Azman Ahmad Sapri.

He said the two men are 21-year-old Kelvin and 31-year-old Bony, both from Jawa Timur.

"The police are now actively tracking the two suspects and Ops Tutup mobilised in the Padawan district," he said.

He also urged the public to contact the IPD Padawan operations room at 082-862 233 or the nearest police station if they have any information regarding the case.
