WITH everyone on social media and communication apps today, it would seem logical for organisations like Tabung Haji to follow suit to reach out to its account holders.
However, scammers can also take advantage of this by setting up fake social media accounts or group chats on communication apps posing as a legitimate organisation or authority.
Recently, a group chat appeared on Telegram; it is said to have been set up by Tabung Haji to solicit investments from the public and promises high returns.
Is there any truth to this?
VERDICT:
FALSE
The police have issued a post on its official Facebook page warning the public that the group chat is in fact a scam.
It said that Tabung Haji has never appointed any individual or third party to form a group chat on Telegram to carry out investment activities which give very high returns.
"If in doubt, don't trust it," said the police.
“Please contact TH at 03-62071919 for assistance or go to http://bit.ly/3oY5bpL," it added.
