Recently, photos of a car in a paddy water channel surfaced online and it has been claimed that this is the result of a car chase in Pendang, Kedah. Is there any truth to this?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Pendang OCPD DSP Arriz Sham Hamezah confirmed this in a statement, saying that a man in his 30s named "Diuh" crashed into the water channel following a car chase with police.

He said the chase on Monday (June 19) began when the Pendang Narcotic Crime Investigation Department were on Ops Tapis 2.0 duties when they spotted a white car being driven in a suspicious manner near Kampung Batu Menunggul.

He said that when police personnel approached the vehicle, it suddenly sped off towards Jalan Pendang Kobah.

"Police personnel began a chase with the suspect until the car entered a mini tar road near Kampung Alor Besar. As soon as it reached a T-junction, the driver of the car lost control and plunged into a water channel," said DSP Arriz Sham.

He added that the suspect was then brought out of the car and arrested, also saying that the suspect was uninjured in the crash and that no illegal items were found in the car.

The suspect has since been held for further investigation under Section 3(1) of the Dangerous Drugs (Special Preventive Measures) Act 1985
