QuickCheck: Has the MyKid card been abolished?

PARENTS all over Malaysia understand the convenience a MyKid card brings.

It makes travelling with children a breeze as you don't need to lug around sensitive documents such as birth certificates around with you. Not only that, registering your child at the doctor (or anywhere else as a matter of fact) is easy with the card.

Recently though, there has been talk online that the National Registration Department (NRD) was abolishing the card. Is this true?

Verdict:

FALSE

In a statement posted on both its official Facebook and Twitter pages, the NRD has said that it was not abolishing the MyKid card.

It said there had been delays in issuing the cards owing to the recent global chip supply issue and that it was working hard to resolve the problem.

The NRD advised parents to continue using their children's birth certificates for any business requiring their child's identity to be verified.

The statement also advised the public to refer to the NRD's website and official social media accounts if they needed any additional information.
