IF one thought bank-related scams could not get more creative, you would be wrong, as it seems that scammers are finding new ways to loop people into their illegal activities.
Recently, it was said online that scammers have found a new means to attract unassuming people to partake in illegal activities.
One of the latest scams allegedly involves fraudsters offering people a means to earn some side income by 'renting' out their bank accounts.
Is this true?
VERDICT:
TRUE
According to Bank Negara, scammers are now posting adverts and links online reaching out to people interested in making some extra money by renting their bank accounts.
Bank Negara has come up with a notice on the Amaran Scam Facebook page to warn the public that one should not be fooled by bank account rental advertisements through social media platforms.
"Giving your account to someone else is an offense that can result in you being prosecuted for conspiring to commit a crime. It can result in your bank account being closed or blocked.
"It can lead to difficulties in using the bank when one receives their salary, runs a business or when obtaining a job.
"It could affect one's ability to receive government assistance as well," the post read.
