IT'S your lucky day, and you've been selected to receive RM1,000! But is it, really?
After all, in the experience of a certain wise and battle-weary Jedi Master, there's no such thing as luck (it's just a matter of having the high ground).
Of late, an "Internet celebrity" has been appearing on Facebook Live, informing viewers of the feed that the first 250 people to say hello will receive RM1,000 in cash.
They will then receive a direct message from the celebrity's "business account" with a link to register for the moolah.
Is this giveaway genuine?
Verdict:
FALSE
In a recent Facebook post, the Cyber Crime Alert Royal Malaysia Police page warned users not to be taken in by this as it is a phishing scam and the person is impersonating the celebrity.
Those who respond are required to fill in their personal information, including credit card information.
"Beware! Scammers are phishing your personal particulars and financial details using a fake social media account.
"Do not be easily taken in by offers of easy money. Do a search on the Internet or social media before proceeding with any transactions.
"Do not expose your password or banking information to others," it says, ending with the hashtag #BeSmartStayAlert.
