BEING a farmer is tough, especially working in the blistering heat every day just to make ends meet. Recently, there are reports that rice farmers in Kedah are being sold fake padi seeds. Is this true?
Verdict:
TRUE
According to Pertubuhan Persaudaraan Pesawah Malaysia (Pesawah) exco member Abdul Rashid Yob, there have been cases where farmers have been sold fake padi seeds that were disguised by being packaged as known brands.
"This has caused losses to the farmers. We urge all farmers to be more careful when purchasing seeds from wholesalers and distributors to avoid being duped.
"While purchasing the seeds, please keep the tagging and receipts as proof," he said, according to Sinar Harian on Friday (June 30).
He also urged farmers to lodge reports with the Agriculture Department and other relevant authorities if they suspect any form of fraud.
