QuickCheck: Is RM500 cash aid being credited into the TNG ewallet?

The government has been channeling various forms of cash aid to the public since the announcement of Budget 2023.

Lately, messages have been circulating informing recipients that RM500 aid is being credited into their respective Touch 'n Go (TNG) ewallet.

The message reads: "Thank you for supporting the BN government'.

"RM500 has been credited to your ewallet. Please confirm your identity and check your balance."

Is the government really sending out such messages and cash aid?

VERDICT:

FALSE

The Finance Ministry has warned the public to be wary of such messages as they were scams and the government has not approved any such aid.

It added that under its ongoing eBelia Rahmah initiative, youths aged 18 to 20 or full-time students at higher education institutes were eligible for an ewallet credit of RM200 each.

This credit is only available to Boost, Setel and TNG users.
