AUTOMATED teller machines (ATMs) are a convenience of modern day life that most of us take for granted, until we need one and find that they have been damaged. As such, news of a person going round to vandalise ATMs tends to go viral.
Recently, news went viral of a man being arrested after smashing several ATM screens and even waved at a camera before doing the deed. Is there any truth to this?

Malay-language portal Majoriti reported that Limbang OCPD Supt Parum Niot confirmed the incident, saying that a 42-year-old local man had been arrested on Monday (July 10).
He added that with the arrest, Limbang police believe that four cases of vandalised ATMs have been solved.
Supt Parum said that a police report about the damaged ATM was lodged on June 3,while a case of damage to a window of a car was received on July 9.
He added that a police report about the most recent vandalism of the ATM was received last Sunday and said that an investigation paper has been opened under Section 427 of the Penal Code.
