QuickCheck: Did a person brandish a sword at a petrol station?

USING a petrol station is an unavoidable, mundane part of everyday life, and it is fair to say that any unusual incident would come as a shock to anyone at the station.

Recently, a video went viral; it claims to show a person threatening someone with a sword at a petrol station in Kedah.

Did this really happen as claimed in the video?

VERDICT:

TRUE

Kuala Muda OCPD ACP Zaidi Che Hassan confirmed that the incident happened as seen, saying that it happened at a petrol station in Gurun, Kedah.

He said that two men and a woman were arrested in connection with the incident, adding that the three are a lorry driver, a driver of a SUV and the person who recorded the video.

“A sword and a smartphone were seized in the course of the investigation. The cause of the incident was that the driver of the SUV had used their horn on the lorry driver at the Bukit Kobah stop in Pendang along the North-South Expressway,” said ACP Zaidi.

He added that this led to an argument at a petrol station further down the highway.

On the case itself, ACP Zaidi said that it is being investigated under Section 506 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958.
