RECENTLY, a photo went viral on social media purporting to show that the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) had issued a letter supporting a Syariah-compliant investment scheme.
Is there any truth to this?

In a statement posted on the Berita RTM Facebook page, the department said it has never been involved with any Syariah-compliant investment schemes as claimed online.
"The public is advised to not spread or share any unverified information," said Jakim.
