TRUE
In a statement, the Sik district police headquarters said it received a report on Saturday (Aug 12) from a worker at a mini market in town, who said he was informed by a colleague that his motorcycle, parked outside, had been stolen.
The complainant said he rushed out and saw his motorcycle being pushed away by a man who was also wearing his helmet.
He then stopped the man and detained him with the help of passers-by before calling the police.
Sik OCPD Deputy Supt Abdull Razak Osman said police then arrived and took the suspect into custody at 4.12pm.
He said investigations found that the alleged thief, an undocumented Myanmar national, intended to take the motorcycle to Penang.
Witness statements were recorded, DSP Abdull Razak said, and the suspect was remanded under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
He added that the case was being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for theft of a motor vehicle, as well as for an offence under the Immigration Act 1959.
He also advised the public to refrain from breaking the law when attempting to detain suspects, and to merely hold them until police arrive to take custody.
