THE sight of a courier at the gate or door has become a normal occurrence nowadays but sometimes, all is not as it seems.
It was claimed recently that a would-be robber tried to make his way into a Putrajaya home by posing as a delivery man. Is this true?
VERDICT:
TRUE
According to Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz, the incident occurred at about 10.20am on Monday (Sept 4).
"The homeowner saw the suspect in front of his home holding a padlock that was previously on his grille gate.
"He became suspicious and queried the suspect, who said he was making a delivery.
"The homeowner then noticed that the padlock was damaged, and the suspect fled.
"He immediately shared the incident on his neighbourhood WhatsApp group to alert others," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 4).
ACP Asmadi said the homeowner rushed downstairs and found his neighbours in the midst of looking for the suspect.
"The suspect was caught at about 11am before being handed over to us for further action.
"We found the suspect to be in possession of (break-in) equipment including spanners, keys and multipurpose tools.
"He is a 29-year-old local who has 11 prior criminal and drug offences on his record.
"Further investigation found that the suspect was involved in two other attempted break-ins in the same housing area," he said.
