THE customer is always right may be a motto to promote good services, but this practice cannot be applied in all situations.
A video making the rounds on social media shows a goreng pisang hawker reprimanding a customer who had allegedly touched some of the banana fritters with his bare hand.
A heated argument ensued, with the customer leaving only to return and hit the hawker with a stick, resulting in his death.
Did the verbal dispute that ended in death happen in Taiping, Perak, as alleged in the viral video?
Verdict:
TRUE
Major Chinese dailies reported the argument had resulted in the hawker being attacked by the customer and his friend, who also swept the food onto the ground and pushed over a wok of hot oil after the victim ran away.
As the 59-year-old hawker, fondly known as Ah Kun by fellow traders at the Pokok Assam market, returned to clean up the mess at his stall, the assailants showed up again and attacked him with helmets and sticks.
The victim collapsed and died.
Police arrested a 49-year-old suspect two hours later and obtained a remand order to detain him until Tuesday (Sept 19) to assist in the investigation.
A post-mortem showed the victim died of a heart attack.
