QuickCheck: Is a viral list of ‘banned songs’ for clubs in Perak legitimate?


RECENTLY, a photo of a list of 18 songs appeared with a seemingly-official letterhead went viral; it was said in the introduction to the list that these songs were banned from being played in clubs due to a purported link to gangsterism.

Is there any truth to this viral photo?

VERDICT:

FALSE

Perak police chief Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri has said in a statement that the list is in fact fake, adding that it was not issued by the police.

"The list is not true and fake. We are investigating it," he said when contacted.

In the picture of the list that has since gone viral, it is claimed that it was purportedly issued by the state police D7 (Anti-Vice, Gambling, and Secret Societies) unit.
