QuickCheck: Was a woman in Kuching forced to take a drink before being assaulted?


A RECENT Facebook post claims to show a woman being forced to take a drink before she is slapped and punched.

It is said that this incident happened at an eatery in Kuching, Sarawak.

Did this really happen?

Police in Siburan, Sarawak, detected the post on Saturday (Sept 23) by a user with the name "Mark Jackson", showing the incident in a shop in Kuching.

Later, the Padawan police contingent received a report from a 37-year-old man at 1pm on Saturday that he received a message on social media showing an Indonesian woman being assaulted.

Police said the woman was forced to drink a glass of liquid before being attacked by a man.

According to a statement from Deputy Supt Lim Jaw Shyong of Padawan, a CID team went to the location in Jalan MJC Batu Kawa, Kuching.

He said they managed to identify the victim, her boyfriend, and the 24-year-old suspect.

The victim was sent to the hospital for treatment and the Indonesian Consulate in Kuching had also been contacted to render follow-up assistance to her, DSP Lim added.

The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.

DSP Lim stressed that the incident did not involve any elements of gangsterism and urged the public not to speculate.
