QuickCheck: Will there be a RM1,000 round for the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah programme?

WITH the issue of the rising cost of living ever present in everyone's minds, many are hoping for a hand to help pull them through these tough times. More so for those categorised as hardcore poor.

In February this year, the Finance Ministry launched the Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme to direct funds to those most in need.

Recently a post has been circulating on social media and WhatsApp that urged readers to sign up for a larger sum allegedly under the Sara programme, this time with an RM1,000 payout.

Is it true that the Sara programme has been increased?

Verdict:

FALSE

According to a statement on the Finance Ministry's social media pages, the viral post titled "Asas Rahmah RM1000 via MyKad" is fake.

The Sara programme does not require families to sign up for it, as recipients are identified from the eKasih database.

The Ministry urged the public not to be fooled by the post and to share it.

It added that the public should only refer to official channels online for information regarding the programme.

To check your eligibility for the Sara programme, the Ministry said the public should visit the STR Official Portal at https://www.mykasih.com.my/.
