RECENTLY, a short closed-circuit television (CCTV) clip of a woman getting stabbed by a man at a self-service laundry shop went viral. The five-second footage showed a man running up behind a woman and stabbing her in the back at the self-service laundry shop which was reported to be at Kuala Nerus, Terengganu.
Malaysians feared for their safety as most posts of the viral video had no information on who the assailant or victim was and their current status.
So, is it true that a woman was stabbed while at a self-service laundry shop recently?
Verdict:
TRUE
On Monday (Oct 2), Sinar Harian reported that Kuala Terengganu district police deputy chief Supt Wan Mohd Zaki Wan Ismail confirmed that they had successfully arrested the man suspected of the stabbing.
He said the 25-year-old unemployed suspect had been found and arrested at Kampung Mengabang Telipot at around 3.30pm on Sunday (Oct 1).
"The suspect will be remanded for four days starting October 2 to allow investigations to be carried out in accordance with Section 324 of the Penal Code and Section 393 of the same act," he told the daily.
Wan Mohd Zaki said that preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and the suspect had no prior connection with each other which could possibly have been the cause of the stabbing.
He added that the 31-year-old victim was currently in stable condition as she continues to receive treatment at the nearby Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) in Kuala Terengganu.
