THE Atkinson Clock Tower, located along Sabah’s Signal Hill Range, is among the best top Instagram spots in the world.

Recently, WhatApp messages have gone viral claiming that a landslide had happened near the historic clock tower in Kota Kinabalu. Did such an incident really occur?

Verdict:

FALSE

Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) director-general Junainah Abbie said no incidences of landslips have happened as a result of beautification works near the clock tower.

“As of Oct 15, there have been no landslides reported in Kota Kinabalu due to the work on the site as claimed in the viral messages,” Junainah said in a statement.

She said the works at the Atkinson Clock Tower involved landscape beautification including hardscape and softscape, construction of a public toilet, tourist information centre and do not involve the gated structure of the tower.

“All activities at the site are under control and being monitored by the appointed consultant,” Junainah added.

As such, she advised the public not to make any speculation that could cause panic among the community.

Junainah urged the people to channel all enquiries and complaints to the council’s Complaints and Public Relations Department at the WhatsApp number 012-222 0220.
