Using an official logo, especially one that is trusted and belongs to an entity recognised nationwide, is the easiest way to scam people.
Whether it be a bank, a commission, the police or even the official centre responding to scams, their logos have been used in cheating cases.
It is easier to convince someone of their legibility when it has the same or similar logo, as many unassuming people tend not to cross-check, believing it to be the same.
Is the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) the newest entity subject to this situation with its logo being misused for advertisement?
Verdict:
TRUE
The Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department has stated that the unauthorised use of the commission’s logo is prohibited.
"The commission has never permitted any party offering money lending services to use their logo," it said while asking the public to be smart and stay alert.
Sharing a post by SSM, it read that they have detected several money loan advertisements on social media using the SSM logo.
"SSM has never permitted any party offering money lending services to use the SSM logo.
"Any party that uses the SSM logo without permission may be subject to action under Section 54 of the Trademark Act 2019," it cautioned.
