EVERYBODY loves a good bop. Whether tackling household chores, applying makeup, or cruising down the highway in your car, adding some music to the mix elevates the task or journey to a whole new level.
Research has even suggested that listening to music can make your skin literally glow.
So, can certain melodies you love work wonders for your skin?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Calming tunes can slow your heartbeat and lower your blood pressure. This relaxation response, say experts, can have a profound impact on your skin.
Beauty Pie brand experts researched songs that could be advantageous for our skin. They examined 1.4 million tracks available on Spotify, focusing on playlists which included keywords like "skincare," "calm," and "wellness."
The result is a list of the 25 tracks considered the "most relaxing" to play while doing your skincare routine.
According to Dr Michael Bonsho a PHD and MA in Music Psychology from the University of Sheffield, the most relaxing genre of music is, surprisingly, hip-hop.
This is because most hip-hop songs have a tempo of 80bpm, a cyclical beat, and repetitive elements like melodies and lyrics. This makes it easier to enjoy.
The science behind this is that when you listen to music you enjoy, your brain releases dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward. Simultaneously reducing the levels of cortisol, the stress hormone which causes skin problems like rosacea and breakouts.
