QuickCheck: Was there a brawl among stall operators at a market in Kelantan?

FIGHTS seem to be breaking out everywhere these days, with people getting into arguments over any old thing and getting worked up to the extent of trying to physically hurt each other.

With the boom in social media usage, many of these altercations are recorded and uploaded before going viral and becoming a topic of conversation among internet users.

One recent viral video is a 1min, 22sec clip uploaded on Tuesday (Nov 7) showing a group of people fighting at what is claimed to be Kelantan's Pasar Siti Khadijah.

Is it true that a fight broke out at the famous market?

Verdict:

TRUE

Kelantan police confirmed receiving two reports over the fight which saw a group of men and women fighting and throwing tables at each other, while two women in aprons attempted to stop it.

The reports were lodged by those involved in the fight. However, police confirmed that the reports were later retracted by the parties involved.

The altercation apparently took place over a misunderstanding over customers by stall operators that turned nasty, as seen in the viral video.

While the parties involved might have retracted their reports, police said they will still investigate and make arrests when the suspects are found.

The case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code which carries up to two years' jail, a fine or both upon conviction.
