VERDICT:

TRUE

A pair of siblings were arrested for a burglary in Sabah after the brother banked almost half of the spoils of the crime into a number of accounts belonging to his sister.

The brother, aged in his 20s, was detained by police here on Nov 7 as a suspect in a series of housebreakings in the state capital and the southwestern Beaufort district.

Beaufort police chief Deputy Supt Ismail Abdullah said they believe the man was also involved in a burglary in the district on Nov 5 which involved losses of some RM78,000.

“After a probe, we found out the suspect had wired the profits from the burglary into several accounts belonging to his family member,” he said in a statement.

After interrogating the man, he said a team from the Sabah police contingent assisted by Beaufort CID personnel roped in the sister, aged in her 30s, who they believed was the holder of the bank accounts.

DSP Ismail said police also seized cash amounting to RM30,320 during the course of the investigation.

“The woman has now been remanded seven days from Nov 9 for a probe under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking,” he said.

The younger brother, he added, was also in the custody of Kota Kinabalu police for investigations on a number of house burglaries.
