QuickCheck: Did a group of men hurl fireworks at the cops in PJ?


FIREWORKS may be beautiful when they explode in the sky, but at their core they are little rockets that could potentially cause serious harm.

While they may be fun to celebrate the festivities with, one should be responsible when playing with fireworks so as not to disturb the community around you or worse, hurt someone.

Recently it came to light that a group of men were setting off fireworks in Lembah Subang, Petaling Jaya and hurled them at the police when they approached.

Is this true?

According to a statement on Facebook, police arrested a group of men for disturbing the peace in Lembah Subang, Petaling Jaya on Monday (Nov 13).

"The police received a complaint from the public at 4.35am on Monday that there was a group of local men playing fireworks and disturbing public order in Lembah Subang, Kelana Jaya, Petaling Jaya," said Petaling Jaya District OCPD ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin Abd Hamid in the statement.

"Based on the information provided, officers from Kelana Jaya police station were sent to scene in two vehicles," he said, adding that the officers were met by a group of residents numbering 50 when they arrived.

Fireworks were then hurled at the police and their vehicles by those causing the disturbance, said ACP Mohamad Fakhrudin who added the police at the scene managed to apprehend the two suspects involved.

"Both men were in their 20s and a check revealed that they both had prior criminal records," he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 13 of the Minor Offences Act 1955.
