STORIES and claims of contaminated food tend to go viral rapidly on social media, especially if the claims allege that certain food has been contaminated with an infectious disease.
Such a claim went viral recently, as it was claimed in a viral WhatsApp message that canned fruit imported from Thailand had been contaminated with the blood of 200 factory workers infected with the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV).

The Health Ministry denied this in a statement, and urged the public to not share the message which had claimed that the matter had been reported to the Indonesian Health Ministry.
"The public is advised to verify the contents of the message using official sources before sharing any information. Do not share it if you are unsure," said the Ministry in the post on its official Facebook account.
