KIDNAPPINGS have become rampant in recent years, we are hearing more of such cases and it is an alarming issue that authorities have been constantly dealt with.

Recently, a 18-second video clip circulating on Thursday (Nov 30) showed three enforcement officers approaching a car with shouts heard, possibly urging the driver to stop as directed.

The video that has since gone viral has linked the driver to a kidnapping case while not much has been discovered about the hostages.

Was this a possible kidnap case?

Verdict:

FALSE

Beluran police have denied that the viral video was related to any kidnapping case, as purported in social media.

Beluran OCPD Superintendent Kasim Muda clarified that the driver, who is a local man, was uncooperative and earlier escaped when authorities approached him at Sapi Nangoh Road Check Point (RCP).

He has since surrendered himself to the cops.

"The vehicle was escaping towards Kota Kinabalu direction during the police road block.

"However, the suspect managed to be apprehended on the same day near the location after he drove back to surrender himself.

"A black Perodua Aruz which he drove was also seized during the 5pm arrest and the case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in discharge of his public functions," said Kasim.

He added that the man was also suspected of using drugs and a urine test will be carried out.
