A VIDEO has been circulating online, apparently showing a woman climbing up a six-storey-tall water tower near the Bagan Serai public market as if she is being pursued.
Concerned onlookers immediately called the police, who arrived with the Fire and Rescue Department to save the woman.
Did this really happen? Did a woman climb a water tower as claimed?
Verdict:
TRUE
According to Kerian district police chief Supt Juna Yusoff, the incident happened on Sunday (Dec 17).
"The Kerian district police were notified of the incident at 2pm. Both the police and the fire department rushed to the location," he said in a statement.
He said firefighters successfully persuaded the woman to come down from the water tower and she was taken to the Bagan Serai police station for further action.
He added that the woman said she climbed the water tower because someone was harassing her.
"Initial investigations found that the 39-year-old woman is married and has mental health issues. She lives in Kuala Lumpur and arrived in Bagan Serai via public transport on Dec 16," he said.
