MODERN urban living can lead to tensions building up, especially when people live practically wall-to-wall in apartment and condominium complexes where every sound can be heard by neighbours.
Recently, footage of a war of words went viral online; it is said that the video was recorded in Johor, and that a noise complaint led to the heated argument that blew up.
Is there any truth to this?
VERDICT:
TRUE
Johor Baru North OCPD Asst Comm Balveer Singh said that a police report has been lodged about the incident on Sunday (Dec 17) at around 3.43pm, adding that an investigation has been opened into the video.
He adds that the video shows two neighbours quarrelling with one another at an apartment building in Taman Universiti in Johor Baru.
“Police came across a viral video on social media about two neighbours getting into a heated argument. The initial investigation found that the incident actually occurred on Dec 8 at around 12.30am,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec 19).
ACP Balveer added that the verbal argument between the two neighbours came from a misunderstanding due to noise levels causing discomfort for other residents.
He said the case is being investigated under Section 13(1) of the Minor Offenses Act 1955 and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
ACP Balveer urged those with information regarding the incident to contact the state police hotline at 07-2212999 or to lodge a report at the nearest police station.
In the one minute and 58 seconds video uploaded on social media, a man was being recorded shouting at his female neighbour for making noise.
The man shouted at the woman saying that the noises she made disrupted his sleep as it was already late at night.
