QuickCheck: Was a vape shop targeted for arson in Port Dickson?


SMALL business owners have been facing many challenges over the last three years with many fearing that their business might just go up in smoke.

According to a post that went viral on X, this literally happened to a vape shop in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan as the owner found his shop to be targetted by an arsonist.

Police are tracking a group of individuals suspected of setting fire to a vape shop in Taman Ria here after a video went viral on the X platform on Tuesday (Dec 19).

Port Dickson OCPD Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed told Sinar Harian the police first became aware of the incident after they spotted two videos, one lasting one minute 18 seconds and another 15 seconds, that were uploaded onto X at approximately 6.30pm on Tuesday.

"The fire happened on Monday (Dec 18) at approximately 9.50pm involving a vape shop lot and was successfully put out by the Fire and Rescue Department.

"The estimated total loss is approximately RM50,000. The case is being investigated under Section 436 of the Penal Code for mischief with fire," he said on Wednesday (Dec 20).

He said that the police were actively investigating the matter to track down the suspect involved.

"Those among the public who have information related to the incident can contact the investigating officer Insp Mohamad Danial Abd Rohim on 013-222 6085.

"Relevant information can also be channelled to the IPD Port Dickson Operations Room, 06-646 2999 or any nearby police station," he said.
