QuickCheck: Were two robbers caught on camera in Taiping?


FOR most people, the thought of being unknowingly caught on camera sends shivers down their spine.

The prospect of an embarrassing moment being immortalised for all to see would of course give some at least a moment of pause. However, two men in Taiping have more to worry about than simply being embarrassed after their antics were caught on a parked car's dashcam.

Is it true that dashcam footage led to the arrest of two robbers in Taiping?

The police have arrested two men suspected of being involved in a break-in at a Taman Bukit Mas home in Taiping on Saturday (Jan 6).

Taiping District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Razlam Ab Hamid told Sinar Harian that the police first began an investigation into the incident on Tuesday (Jan 2).

According to him, the two suspects, aged 37 and 47, were arrested by the Criminal Investigation Department, Perak Police Contingent Headquarters (IPK) at a house in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur at around 11am.

"The police also seized a red car suspected to be a clone car.

"A number of burglary tools, mobile phones, women's handbags and foreign currency were also confiscated," he said in a statement here on Saturday (Jan 6).

Razlam said both suspects had past criminal records in crime and drugs in 2017.

"The remand application under Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code will be made at the Taiping Magistrate's Court on Sunday.

"We are still tracking another friend of theirs who was also involved in the incident," he said.

Footage of the two suspects fleeing in the red Honda City car was captured on the vehicle's dashboard camera before it went viral on social media on Friday (Jan 5).
