According to Yan district police chief Deputy Supt Shahnaz Akhtar Haji, footage from a closed-circuit television camera at a sundry shop showed two men pulling off a robbery with a fire extinguisher in Guar Chempedak, Yan.
He said that the video, which went viral on social media, shows a robber aiming a fire extinguisher at the store's cashier and discharging it.
The man's accomplice is also seen snatching a till from the cashier.
DSP Shahnaz said the robbers then fled the scene with an undisclosed sum of cash and that a police report on the case was received on Thursday (Jan 25).
He said police are tracking down the robbers and urged those with information to contact the investigations officer Insp Che Norhati Nawi at 04-465 5222.
