QuickCheck: Was a viral clip showing a motorcyclist flung off his machine after a crash shot in Johor?


WITH just a tap, one can easily record any incident on their smart device, anything can be recorded and made viral, while footage of accidents and road rage incidents can also be captured to be used as evidence.

Recently, a video went viral showing a car making a sudden left turn into the emergency lane and a motorcycle crashing into it, with the rider flung through the air by the impact.

It is said that the clip, shared on the Malaysia-Singapore Border Crossers Facebook page, was filmed in Johor. Is this true?

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Ismail Dollah confirmed that the crash happened at KM123.2 of the North-South Expressway. Both vehicles were heading towards Pagoh-Yong Peng.

“The incident occurred at 1.45pm on Monday (Feb 12) involving a motorcycle and a car.

“A police report was lodged by a 52-year-old man, the driver of the vehicle, at 5.20pm the same day. However, there was no report lodged by the rider,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 13).

"The accident occurred after the driver made a sudden left turn into the emergency lane.

“The rider (who was following) failed to avoid the car and crashed into the left side of the vehicle,” he said.

He added that investigations are still ongoing, and police are urging the rider to come forward and lodge a report at the nearest police station.

The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.
